The Melting Pot

Last night a group of us went to The Melting Pot for a fashion show/vendor event (the event was called 'Boys Night Out' and it was for gay men). I had never been there but I knew it was all about fondue. I am also all about fondue, so it seemed like a match made in heaven. Not so much. Well, I shouldn't say that. It was fun, but the things that I didn't love revolved around the fashion show. I'll get to that in a moment.

When you site down at a table at TMP there is a burner in the middle of the table and a double-boiler steaming away with broth in it. It smells really good, but mid-May in Florida with steaming broth in your face will definitely make you sweat, just a heads up. The first course is a really yummy beer and cheese combination that you dip bread, fruit and vegetables into. I think that was my favorite course. Next they bring over a tray of assorted meats and you cook them in the broth mixture. That was good, but you don't really get a lot (keep in mind that I love to eat, others may think there is plenty of food). Lastly, they bring over a tray with assorted desserts on it and you dip them into chocolate. The desserts were cheesecake, pound cake, strawberries, bananas, marshmallows, all kinds of things. It was really good, but the big lesson I learned was that you can easily make yourself sick on the desserts, which is exactly what happened to me. I felt lousy after dinner, which was a shame.

Back to the fashion show... Dillard's sent a few male models to show off some of their collection. We were joking with them while they were describing their outfits, just silly stuff, we weren't being rude or mean. But we quickly discovered that the models were straight. Umm, Dillard's, here is a word of advice for sending models to a gay event: SEND GAY MEN. Not only did the models make me feel uncomfortable, but I think the feeling was mutual. When we left the restaurant I was the first to go outside and I overheard one of the models on his phone making fun of the gay guys. He saw me and lowered his voice. What an asshole.

It's rare that I feel uncomfortable in my surroundings, but last night I was not comfortable at all.
