oooh, that smell

When I went outside this morning to take Millie for a walk I smelled a nasty burnt stink. That means it is time again for the yearly Everglades fires. In the spring and summer when we haven't had much rain, wildfires begin to burn in the Everglades. Last year there were quite a few and even Alligator Alley was closed a few times due to heavy smoke and flames. It is really interesting to me because we don't live terribly close to the Everglades, but as the crow flies, we're not very far.

Last year I remember the smell was kind of nice. If you're Catholic you might remember the smell of the incense that they sometimes would burn during Mass. I think it is Sandalwood. But this year it smells like burnt tires. Yuck.
