I lost all my settings :(
Damn. I lost all the customizations I had made on my blog, including the links to blogs I read and the ads. Oh well. It's not the end of the world, but it is going to be a few days before I can get around to fixing it. Thank goodness for the WayBack Machine!

I heart Comcast (aka I am Comcastic)
When we first moved to Florida I got the Comcast Business Internet package so I could host my own website and email and all the good stuff that geeks do. It worked great, but was pricy at $100/month.
Recently we have been trying to cut costs and one obvious item was the Business Internet, which cost twice as much as the home Comcast Internet. I moved my website and email to a hosted server (which caused all kinds of issues, as you know if you've tried to send me an email recently). Once that was done I called Comcast and told them to switch me over to the home service. It isn't a one phone call process, as I found out. You call and they take your information and someone calls you back. This was two weeks ago. I had actually forgotten about it until my cell phone rang yesterday and it was Comcast. They said they didn't want to lose my business and were prepared to give me a "steep discount". How "steep" you ask? Half-price. No shit. They cut the price from $100/mo to $54/month. Now realize, I have the fastest Internet they offer, PLUS a static IP, which is critical to host websites and email, all for $9 more than their home product. I told the Comcast lady that for this price I would keep the damn thing forever.
So, I am now moving most of my stuff back to my own server, with the exception of this blog, which I am going to keep on it's new server with a host because they have redundancy and it was only $6/month (and I already prepaid for 2 years, so I am stuck with the cost).
Yay Comcast! Oh, and we use Vonage phone service with our fast Business Comcast Internet and have very few issues. We had MAJOR problems using Vonage through Comcast while we were in Boston. But I digress.
I heart Comcast.

lehman brothers
I was shocked by the Lehman Bros news this morning as I drove to work. I have taken to listening to NPR News in the car. Does that mean I am getting older? I heard last week about the rumors, but to hear it really happened was a rude awakening.
The news, where the giant company applied for Bankruptcy protection, is the largest chapter 11 filing in US history. Whoa. This is the latest in a long string of scary happenings in the US economy. I don't even want to reveal my predictions for the short-term health of our economy, but things aren't good at all. Check in with me when Goldman files for protection. I'm just saying...
Saving money in mattresses doesn't sound so bad right now.

million dollar listings
There is a show on Bravo about a real estate agent who is the BIGGEST premadonna in the world. I thought this was the craziest train wreck show for a long time. Until I watched 'Million Dollar Listing". WHAT THE FUCK? HO-LEE CRAP. This is something else.
First of all, the guys on this show are GAYEEEEE. No matter what they say about their "girlfriends", they are all homos. And that is a great thing, don't get me wrong, but watching these ladies go about their business is totally hysterical, especially when they fight amongst themselves.
I might be the last person on earth to watch this show, but tonight is the season finale and I, for one, am very excited to see which drama girl gets her ass kicked by the market.

moving my blog!
Hola!
Currently I host my blog at my house. While convenient, if a hurricane strikes my blog will be down and you will be disappointed. We don't want that, do we??
In the coming days I will be moving my blog - the name will stay the same: www.marksnews.com and hopefully you shouldn't notice any changes, but if you try and access my blog and are unable to get to the site, it means that it is the process of moving and will be back up shortly, so keep trying!

my sister's keeper
I just finished the chick-lit (thanks for the classification, Pianca!) My Sister's Keeper. I am a huge fan of Jodi Picoult. My mother first introduced her to me with her book about the Amish. It was a great book. It was called Plain Truth. Since then I have read a number of her books. I have never been disappointed.
Without giving away the story if you haven't read the book, all I will say is, wow. This book makes you think. It talks about major ethical issues and definitely forces you to consider both sides of the issue (again, I won't get into it).
I wish I could quit my job and read books all the time. They are so great.
The next book in my queue is Ask Again Later. More chick-lit. Ah, joyous.

you hit our bush???
Recently we had a knock at our door. A guy said that he had hit our bush while he was driving to get his premature daughter oxygen. Wait, WHAT??
First, a little history on "the bush"...it is impossible to kill these bushes. They sit at the end of our driveway. The bushes, hibiscus, are immune to everything. They get so big that we cut them back to the point that we think they are going to die, but they come right back, even bigger than before. It is amazing. These things are indestructible.
So...the guy. I answered the door and he was all flustered. He told me that he and his wife had recently moved into the neighborhood and the had a premature daughter. He was out buying oxygen for the daughter and he hit our bushes. I was all like whatever, it's just a bush (I mean, with a premature daughter who needs oxygen, this is minor). He said he wanted to leave his name and I was all like whatever, it's a bush (I looked at the bush from the door, it was still standing, so what kind of damage could be done?).
After he left I went outside to check out the bush. Boy, he really did hit it. I don't know what happened but he must have crossed the road and slammed our bush. It wasn't too badly damaged, these things will grow back in no time, but God damn, he slammed our bush. There were leaves everywhere.
Whatever, it is so minor in the course of things. Good luck with your kid. Our bush is not a big deal. Know what I mean???
